Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Dismisses Resignation Rumors

Political Turmoil Grips Himachal Pradesh as CM Denies Resignation, Speaker Expels 15 BJP Legislators.

In the midst of escalating political tensions in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has vehemently denied rumors circulating about his resignation. Dismissing claims of stepping down from his position, Sukhu labeled them as false propaganda aimed at destabilizing the state government. Asserting his determination, he stated, “We are warriors, we will fight like warriors and win. Congress Party will run for the next 5 years.”

The rebuttal from Sukhu comes amidst a flurry of speculation regarding the stability of the government, fueled by recent developments in the state legislative assembly. Adding fuel to the fire, Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Pathania has taken decisive action by expelling 15 legislators from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur. Pathania cited indiscipline and misconduct as the grounds for their expulsion, signaling a significant escalation in the ongoing political confrontation.

Reacting to the expulsion, Jairam Thakur, now the Leader of the Opposition, criticized the move as politically motivated and lacking in merit. He argued that the Congress party lacks a majority in the assembly and, therefore, cannot legitimately pass the budget. Thakur accused the ruling party of suspending BJP MLAs without just cause, suggesting that any attempt to pass the budget would be in violation of established rules.

“If he (CM Sukhu) has even a little bit of morality left, then he should resign,” Thakur remarked, underscoring the gravity of the situation and calling into question the ethical standing of the incumbent chief minister.

The expulsion of 15 BJP legislators and the ensuing war of words between the ruling party and the opposition have plunged Himachal Pradesh into a state of political turmoil, raising concerns about the effective functioning of the state government and the prospects of governance in the foreseeable future. As the standoff intensifies, all eyes are on the corridors of power in Shimla, awaiting further developments that could shape the political landscape of the state.
