Rahul Gandhi said to bring the country together while shutting the space for the viral spread & “Stop the lies Vaccinate extensively
Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader and Member of Parliament, on Friday, addressed a special press conference via video conference wherein he said that fighting Coronavirus was different from fighting the Opposition parties and that the government needs to understand that Congress stands by its side in the fight against the pandemic.
The Congress leader said, “The tragedy is that the Government does not understand the nature of what they are fighting. The Government is under the impression that they are fighting the Opposition. When it comes to Corona, we are on the government’s side.”
Rahul Gandhi said it is important to understand that Coronavirus is not a simple disease. “It is an evolving disease, it changes, it transforms. And, the only way to stop Corona is to remove the space within which it moves. Do not give it time to move,” he added.
According to Rahul Gandhi, there are temporary & permanent ways to fight Coronavirus. “What I consider brutal but possibly required under certain circumstances – lockdown & social distancing, sanitization, masks – these are temporary measures. They don’t stop the virus but slow it down,” he said.
“When we get rid of lockdown, the virus will start to evolve. The only permanent way of fighting the virus is a vaccine. It is important to understand, the more time you give the virus, the more likely it is to mutate and defeat our vaccine,” the Congress party quoted Rahul Gandhi as saying on their official Twitter handle.
Rahul Gandhi said that the need of the hour is to understand the dangers of the mutation of this virus, not only to India but to the rest of the world. “You are creating a liability for the whole planet. Why? Because you are allowing 97% of the population to be attacked by Corona,” he said.
He claimed that only 3% Indians have been vaccinated while half of America is vaccinated in comparison. He said 8-10% of Brazil is vaccinated while the Indian government is helping the virus.
“Multiple, different prices for vaccination. Different people paying different things, speculation going on for vaccines. At what cost?” he asked.
He went on to say, “I am 100% certain that every single journalist who is watching this press conference has lost somebody. The Government is responsible, the Prime Minister is responsible.”
Attacking the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, “Clap your hands, flash your mobile phones, we have defeated Corona. It is a fundamental misunderstanding of what’s going on. It is ignorance.”
“I am again requesting the Government. Get your vaccination strategy in order, do not give the virus the space to mutate. It is going to kill again. Lockdown is a temporary solution,” he said, adding, “I guarantee you, at 3% vaccination, we are going to get a third wave & it’s going to be more brutal than the second wave. If we continue to leave space open, there will be a fourth & fifth wave & then there’s a chance vaccine won’t work.” Rahul said that it was being propagated that he is threatening people. “I am not threatening people, I am trying to save people,” he said, adding “When I spoke in February, I was trying to save my country’s people. I was scared for them. I didn’t want to see what I had to see over the last 2-3 months.”
