Indian Weavers Are Facing A Huge Crisis In The Wake Of Covid – Indian weavers are facing a huge crisis in the wake of covid. Most of the weavers who come from Assam and other districts in Bengal could not join work. Adding to their problems is the rapid expansion of power looms and rapier. From Cooch Behar alone, 10,000-15,000 weavers come to Fulia. A weaver will take two days to weave a simple cotton tant saree in a handloom. More than 30 sarees are made daily in power loom and rapiers with just one weaver.

A Fortnight Without Drinking Water –  “We are facing acute shortage of drinking water. Our womenfolk have to visit nearby areas kilometres away in order to fetch potable water in pots. This is a daily humiliation, even after the authorities had promised us tap water through a scheme, which seems a total waste,” Haji Ab Rashid Magray, a local resident says.

Family demanding dead bodies of two youth killed in Lawaypora gunfight

The families of two youth, who were among the three killed in Lawaypora gunfight on December 30, staged a protest in Srinagar on Monday and demanded the bodies of their kin so that they could have their last glimpse and bury them. The families of two youth that include Athar Mushtaq Wani from Bellow Pulwama and Zubair Ahmad Lone from Shopian district of southern Kashmir gathered at Srinagar’s Press Enclave and held a protest demonstration. The father of Athar, amid tears and sobs, demanded that the authorities should handover the body of his slain son. The slain’s sister said that her brother left home at 01:00 PM, but he didn’t inform the family where he was going.
