DigiLocker users can now digitally store health records and link them with Ayushman Bharat Health Account

The DigiLocker secure cloud-based storage platform can now be used as a health locker for storing and accessing health records.

When the Union Government bought forth the facility of DigiLocker, it had come across as a handy tool to store all important documents. Carrying physical documents around had been a task, and with the digital storage option arriving, it came about as a boon to many. Over the years, DigiLocker has gained much popularity, with digitalisation gaining currency.

As per a new development on that front, DigiLocker users will now be able to digitally store health records and link them with the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA). DigiLocker has turned out to be the most trusted and authentic documents exchange platform under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

With the second second-level of integration with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) now effective, this secure cloud-based storage platform can now be used as a health locker for storing and accessing health records such as vaccination records, doctor prescriptions, lab reports, and hospital discharge summaries.

Utilize DigiLocker as a PHR app

According to the Ministry sources, DigiLocker had earlier completed level 1 integration with ABDM wherein the platform had added ABHA or Ayushman Bharat Health Account creation facility for its 13 crore users. The latest integration will now enable users to utilize DigiLocker as a Personal Health Records (PHR) app.

This apart, Ayushman Bharat Health Account holders can also link their health records from different ABDM registered health facilities like hospitals and labs and access them via DigiLocker. Users will also have the option to scan and upload their old health records on the app. Further, they can share selected records with ABDM registered healthcare professionals.

According to Dr. R. S. Sharma, CEO, National Health Authority (NHA), an inter-operable health ecosystem is currently being built and integrated. The different applications from both the public and private sectors partners integrating with ABDM currently help in enhancing the reach of the scheme to more users and adding more functionalities.

Trusted and popular app to access authentic documents

Dr Sharma added that the DigiLocker has turned out to be a trusted and popular app to access authentic documents. And, therefore, the latest development comes as a significant development as users will be able to use it as a PHR app and get the benefits of paperless record keeping.

The benefits born out of the latest development will help in extending the benefits of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission to 130 million registered users. The platform has already helped generate close to 85,000 Ayushman Bharat Health Account numbers.

Consequent to the health locker integration, more people are expected to be able to easily link and manage their health records digitally. DigiLocker aims to be the preferred health locker for Ayushman Bharat Health Account users, and all registered users of DigiLocker will be able to use the health locker services.
