Assam-Mizoram Clashes: HM has failed the country yet again, Rahul Gandhi says

Rahul Gandhi also described the clashes ‘dreadful’ repercussions of the ‘hatred’, sown by the Home Minister Amit Shah as per the Congress leader.

NEW DELHI — Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday expressed his condolences to those who died in the recent Assam-Mizoram violence and accused the Centre of breeding enmity and distrust amongst people.

Rahul Gandhi also described the clashes ‘dreadful’ repercussions of the ‘hatred’, sown by the Home Minister Amit Shah as per the Congress leader.

“Heartfelt condolences to the families of those who’ve been killed. I hope the injured recover soon,” Rahul said in a tweet, adding, “Home Minister has failed the country yet again by sowing hatred and distrust into the lives of people. India is now reaping its dreadful consequences. #AssamMizoramBorder.”

The views were expressed by Mr Rahul after five Assam Police personnel died in an exchange of fire with their Mizoram counterparts on Monday.

The clashes had erupted after allegations of encroachment of territory by both sides over the past few weeks and skirmishes that escalated tensions between the two states.

The incidents came two days after Amit Shah held talks with the chief ministers of eight north-eastern states and underscored the need to resolve lingering border disputes.
