Zoom in child Covid-19 cases in the US need to be seen as a wake-up call by rest of the world

More than 112,000 child Covid-19 cases have been reported in the US over the past week.

If you thought the infections due to the novel coronavirus belong to the past, think again! For, the world over, there have been instances of Covid-19 infections being reported. The situation of today is such that scare has given way to normalcy, and a variety of nations tend to ignore one-off cases.

However, even in instances where the people and governments think are just one-off cases, the reality is doesn’t exactly that. The infections are in fact being reported, though the Covid 19 scenario seems to have lost news value and are not being properly reported.

Take for instance the real-life scenario where more than 112,000 child Covid-19 cases have been reported in the US. This number is not something that needs to be ignored, considering that these infections have occurred during a one-week period.

Scary rise in child Covid-19 cases in the US is a cause for concern

Further, the 112,000 child Covid-19 cases reported is the double of case counts from the four weeks earlier. Going by the latest report put out by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children`s Hospital Association, the cases have been climbing, even without many of us realising the actual gravity of the situation.

The Covid-19 scene in the United States is far from over, indeed. The latest number of child Covid-19 cases reported during the past one week is also being termed the seventh consecutive weekly increase in child Covid-19 cases in the country.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children`s Hospital Association have stated, according to a news report, that close to 13.4 million children have tested positive for Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic in the country.

A frightening number of 376,000 cases have been added in the past four weeks, it has been said. The total child Covid-19 cases in all of 2022 till date stand at close to 5.5 million. This also means that 18.9 percent of the total Covid-19 cases in the United States are children.

As the number starts to appear scary, the American Academy of Pediatrics has called for collection of age-specific data, so that it would aid in the assessment of the severity of illness. The infections that have been attributed to fresh variants and also the possible longer-term effects of the novel coronavirus need to be studied too.

Studies must to gauge potential danger

The fact is that other nations of the world, like the US, would have to wake up to such a situation in case it lies ignored, after the larger waves subsided. Children and the potential danger they face need a better study and understanding.

The nations of the world, and their healthcare administrations need to gear up for better and larger studies on the impact the virus has brought in, particularly in children. Exercising caution and being better prepared would go a long way towards absolute health and wellness.
