Rahul Gandhi Criticizes PM Modi, Adani, and Ambani in Haryana, Promises MSP for Farmers
With Haryana's Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for October 5, Rahul Gandhi intensifies his attack on the Modi government, pledging reforms for farmers and youth while criticizing the influence of billionaires on the Indian economy.
Congress Leader Takes Aim at Modi Government’s Economic Policies, Vows Direct Financial Support to Families and Youth Employment Opportunities
Haryana — Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during a rally in Haryana, took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and prominent businessmen like Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, accusing them of monopolizing India’s economy and sidelining the needs of the common people, particularly farmers and small business owners. Addressing a large gathering, Gandhi painted a picture of distress among the youth of Haryana, highlighting rampant unemployment, increasing inflation, and the flight of young talent from the state to countries like the United States.
In his speech, Gandhi spoke about the struggles faced by thousands of young people from Haryana, many of whom are leaving India in search of better opportunities abroad. “Young people from Haryana are fleeing to places like America because they see no future here. Unemployment and inflation are crushing their dreams,” he said. He further shared anecdotes of individuals who risked their lives crossing oceans and jungles to reach the U.S., only to face further hardships.
Rahul Gandhi’s critique focused heavily on what he called the “deliberate closing of opportunities” for the average Indian, attributing much of this to the policies of the Modi government. “The doors to employment, entrepreneurship, and even public sector jobs have been systematically shut for the common people,” he asserted. Gandhi linked this to large-scale privatization and the alleged prioritization of businessmen like Adani and Ambani, whose wealth has surged under Modi’s leadership.
“Small businesses have been wiped out by an unfair GST and economic policies that only benefit the ultra-rich. While young people from Haryana struggle for loans and jobs, banks are wide open for the likes of Adani and Ambani,” Gandhi claimed, adding that public sector jobs and defense recruitment opportunities are being slashed in favor of private interests.
He also took a sharp dig at Modi’s economic and military policies, particularly criticizing the ‘Agniveer’ scheme for defense personnel. According to Gandhi, the scheme deprives soldiers of long-term benefits like pensions, while large contracts for military equipment are handed over to companies owned by industrialists like Adani.
“Adani is not making defense equipment. Foreign companies are producing it, and Adani just puts his name on it and sells it in India,” Gandhi alleged.
Apart from the sharp criticism of the Modi government, Gandhi made several promises, particularly aimed at the farming community. He pledged to implement the Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantee for farmers if Congress is voted into power. “We will ensure that farmers get the right price for their produce. Once our government comes to power, we will immediately give you MSP guarantees,” he announced, drawing applause from the crowd.
Gandhi emphasized that his party’s focus is on putting money directly into the pockets of poor and middle-class families. “Our government will ensure direct financial support to families through schemes like the Women Empowerment Program, where we will deposit ₹4,000 per month into the bank accounts of women in Haryana,” he promised.
Addressing the youth, Gandhi announced his party’s intention to create over two lakh job vacancies in Haryana, which he promised would be distributed fairly across all communities.
Concluding his speech, Gandhi called for unity among the people of Haryana, urging them to overthrow the current BJP-led state government and usher in a Congress government that would work for “the people and not just the billionaires.” He also vowed to continue defending the Indian Constitution, which he said was under threat from the policies of the Modi government.
“The Constitution protects the rights of the poor, but those in power today want to tear it apart. We will fight to protect the Constitution that gives strength to India’s farmers, laborers, and common citizens,” he concluded.
Gandhi’s fiery speech comes ahead of the 2024 Haryana Legislative Assembly elections, which are scheduled to take place on October 5, 2024. The elections will decide all 90 members of the Haryana Legislative Assembly, and the results are expected to be announced on October 8, 2024. The Congress party is looking to regain power in Haryana, a state that has seen a series of political upheavals over the years.
