Gujarat begins free distribution of surplus food grains under PMGKAY: CM Vijay Rupani

Vijay Rupani said that the food grains are being distributed in addition to monthly ration to NFSA ration card holders on concessional rates

Vijay Rupani, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, on Friday stated that the state government will begin to distribute free surplus food grains to ration cardholders from June 11.

The distribution of surplus food grains in the state will be in line with the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY).

Also, the food grains are being distributed in addition to monthly ration to NFSA ration card holders on concessional rates.

“In addition to regular distribution on concessional rates in June to 3.47 crore population of more than 71.54 lakh NFSA ration cardholders in the state, free distribution of surplus food grains under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana from today to June 11, 2021, starting from Friday,” CM Vijay Rupani said.

Pertinently, the government has announced to relax some lockdown rules to allow businesses, religious places, restaurants, gyms to reopen from today. However, night curfew will remain in place across the state from 9 PM to 6 AM daily.

The state added 544 new Coronavirus cases and 11 more casualties in the last 24 hours that raised the tally of infections to 8,18,895 and toll to 9,976 on Thursday. As many as 1,505 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the count of recoveries to 7,96,208.
