Meetings with Central Ministers
Naidu’s trip to Delhi was marked by a series of back-to-back meetings with key central ministers, including Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Health Minister J.P. Nadda, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Naidu described these meetings as satisfactory and emphasized the shared vision of a developed India and Andhra Pradesh. He expressed confidence in receiving complete support from the central government for the state’s reconstruction efforts.
During his meeting with Finance Minister Sitharaman, Naidu presented a detailed memorandum outlining Andhra Pradesh’s urgent financial needs, highlighting ongoing projects like the Polavaram irrigation project and the development of the new capital, Amaravati. Sources reported that Sitharaman listened attentively and assured Naidu that the state’s demands would be considered within the constraints of the national budget. This meeting is particularly crucial as it precedes the Union Budget 2024-25.
Continued Dialogues
In addition to his discussions with Finance Minister Sitharaman, Naidu met with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister J.P. Nadda. Naidu tweeted:
“It was a pleasure to meet and interact with the Hon’ble Union Defence Minister, Shri @rajnathsingh Ji in New Delhi today.”
“Delighted to meet you, Union Minister @JPNadda Ji. Looking forward to collaborating further on achieving our shared vision of Viksit Andhra Pradesh and Viksit Bharat.”
Naidu also engaged with other key ministers, including Hardeep Singh Puri, Piyush Goyal, Manohar Lal Khattar, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, discussing various development initiatives and expressing optimism about the central government’s support for Andhra Pradesh.
Political Significance
Naidu’s recent activities in Delhi have drawn widespread attention, highlighting his influential role within the NDA government. His demand for a substantial financial package comes at a time when the central government is reliant on his support, making it difficult for Modi to overlook his requests. Given the political dynamics, a positive decision on Naidu’s demands is anticipated, although it remains to be seen whether the central government will fully meet his expectations.
As the state navigates its financial challenges and development needs, the collaboration between Andhra Pradesh and the central government will be crucial in shaping the future trajectory of the region.
