Punjab extends Covid restrictions until June 15 with certain relaxations

CM Captain Amarinder Singh said we must remain fully vigilant & disciplined to not let COVID-19 cases rise again

Taking a step-by-step approach to reopening, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday ordered the state’s Covid restrictions to be extended until June 15, with few exceptions, such as the operation of businesses until 6 PM and private offices operating with half-staff strength.

The Chief Minister declared that the night curfew will be in effect from 7 PM to 6 AM on weekdays, including Saturdays, while the standard weekend curfew will be in effect on Sundays.

The Chief Minister permitted gatherings of up to 20 people, including weddings and cremations, after the positivity rate dropped to 3.2 percent and active cases dropped as well.

Recruitment examinations will be permitted, subject to compliance to social distance and other Covid applicable criteria, however the Chief Minister suggested that the digital option be preferable. Sports training for national and international tournaments is also permissible, and the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs has been tasked with issuing the required instructions and guidelines.

“I strongly urge everyone to wear masks & continue to observe precautions. While we are on the path to recovery, we must remain fully vigilant & disciplined to not let COVID-19 cases rise again,” the chief minister said.

He tweeted, “Sharing revised #Covid19 guidelines with you. These will be applicable till June 15. I strongly urge everyone to wear masks & continue to observe precautions. While we are on the path to recovery, we must remain fully vigilant & disciplined to not let #Covid19 cases rise again.”

It is in place to mention that the relaxed norms come after Punjab continues to witness a dip in new cases.
