Deepika to don Lady Singham garb in Rohit Shetty cop universe
Deepika Padukone had earlier collaborated with Rohit Shetty for the hugely successful Chennai Express.
Deepika Padukone seems to be on a roll. The actress who is all geared up to set the screens on fire with her ‘Current Laga Le’ song number for the forthcoming Rohit Shetty film Cirkus, will be seen in more prominent roles during the coming days. Films with Deepika have been lined up with a view towards churning up the Box Office, and among them happen to be yet another Shetty opus.
Deepika had earlier been seen in the hugely successful Rohit Shetty directorial Chennai Express, where she played the Tamil leading lady opposite Shahrukh Khan. Now Shetty has said that he has roped in the talented actress for a role which has been demanded by the masses.
Deepika as Lady Singham
Going by what Shetty has been quoted saying, people have been asking him when the next iteration of his super-duper blockbuster Singham series would arrive. Shetty revealed that the film will soon go on the floors and this time around the protagonist will be a Lady Singham.
And no guesses for who will play Lady Singham! Deepika has been cast as Lady Singham, the woman cop taking down the bad guys. Deepika will put on the khaki uniform for Shetty’s much applauded cop universe, it was revealed on stage while the Cirkus song release was announced. The announcement was made with Ranveer Singh and Deepika present on stage.
The film is set to go on floors in the coming year, with Rohit Shetty saying that he and Deepika will work together next year. Their earlier collaboration had catapulted Chennai Express to a major success when it had hit the screens in year 2013. That means, they had to wait for almost a decade to work together again.
Major projects lined up
In the meantime, the actress has a slew of projects lined up for 2023. She will be seen in flicks of varied genre. The one that has already triggered much expectations is Pathaan, where she is cast opposite Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham.
The Shahrukh-Deepika paid had seem many successes when they had teamed up earlier. Epic blockbusters were born when the pair collaborated for films like Om Shanti Om, Chennai Express and Happy New Year. Pathaan is expected to surpass all these records when it releases on January 25, 2023.
Besides Pathaan, Deepika will play the leading lady in Fighter, opposite Hrithik Roshan. The film narrates the tale of an Air Force pilot. She also has sci-fi project with southern star Prabhas, which will be directed by Nag Ashwin.
