Iran Warns of Israeli Nuclear Weapons Threat to Global Peace

Ambassador Ali Bahraini Criticizes Double Standards and Calls for Renewed Efforts in Nuclear Disarmament.

Geneva, Switzerland – In a stark warning, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations office in Geneva, Ali Bahraini (Ambassdor of Iran) has highlighted the threat posed by the nuclear weapons of the Israeli regime to regional and global peace and security. His comments came during the second meeting of the preliminary committee of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) review conference.

Bahraini criticized the lack of progress in achieving the goals of the NPT, emphasizing that the presence of nuclear arsenals, especially those of the United States, has set back the treaty’s objectives. “We not only have not come close to the main goals of the treaty, but the prospect of achieving these goals seems even further away than in 1970,” he stated.

The Iranian diplomat identified unilateralism as the primary obstacle to nuclear disarmament. He pointed out that as long as nuclear policies and programs of nuclear-armed countries continue, and as long as NATO members increasingly rely on nuclear weapons, significant progress in global disarmament remains elusive.

As long as these nuclear policies and programs of nuclear weapons countries continue and more countries, especially under the NATO nuclear umbrella, rely more and more on nuclear weapons, there will be no progress in nuclear disarmament in the world,” Bahraini emphasized.

Iran, he asserted, remains committed to the NPT’s goals and the peaceful nature of its nuclear program. However, he argued that the Israeli regime’s nuclear weapons program is the most significant barrier to a nuclear-weapon-free Middle East.

Bahraini underscored that the threat posed by Israeli nuclear weapons is exacerbated by the double standards applied by certain nuclear countries, particularly the United States and its Western allies, who support Israel’s nuclear capabilities.

The ambassador’s remarks reflect ongoing tensions and highlight the challenges faced in advancing nuclear disarmament on a global scale. The NPT review conference serves as a crucial platform for addressing these issues, but the differing stances of member states underscore the complexity of achieving a consensus.

As the world continues to grapple with the threat of nuclear proliferation, the calls for a comprehensive and unbiased approach to disarmament grow louder. The concerns raised by Iran at the NPT meeting underscore the urgent need for renewed international efforts to address the imbalance and work towards a safer, nuclear-free world.
