Yuva Sankalp Yatra: At least 30 BJP workers detained for not obtaining permission in Bengal

Shortly after the police arrested the BJP workers, there were clashes between them and the police.

NEW DELHIIn front of their party office in Siliguri, West Bengal Police detained at least 30 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists on Tuesday, including Siliguri MLA Sankar Ghosh ahead of their ‘Yuva Sankalp Yatra’.

According to the police, they did not request authorization to participate in the Yuva Sankalp Yatra march.

The BJP workers were detained because they did not obtain permission for the Yuva Sankalp rally, Joy Tudu, Siliguri Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) was quoted as having told ANI.

Confrontations between the BJP workers and police occurred shortly after the arrests were made by the police.

More incidents of detentions, clashes

In a separate incident, police detained 35 Narayani Sena activists at Bagdogra airport as they were waiting to see John Barla, BJP MP from Alipurduar and Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs.

Raju Bista, a BJP MP from Darjeeling and the General Secretary of the National Yuva Morcha, told ANI that the workers from the BJP’s Yuva Morcha were taking part in the Yatra to commemorate India’s 75th anniversary of independence.

A total of 75 Yuva Morcha leaders were scheduled to begin the 75-kilometer Yuva Sankalp Yatra rally in 75 different locations to pay tribute to the country and its people, as per Raju Bista.

Mr Bista went on to allege that the cops are attempting to put an end to the Yatra which, as per him, demonstrates the anti-national nature of the West Bengal administration and state police.

The state and the country are in a dangerous scenario, Bista claimed.

BJP MP calls the day as “shameful”

According to Raju Bista, many TMC officials had previously held a “Khela Hobe” programme without informing the state police, which was not disrupted.

Calling the day as “shameful”, the MP said at least 1000 TMC workers assembled without the consent or knowledge of the general public to hold a Khela Hobe programme previously.

On the other hand, he alleged, when BJP workers and its leaders want to hold a programme to pay homage to the country, they are denied permission and individuals are detained.
