Pegasus Scandal: Congress demands a Supreme Court-monitored judicial probe

“Not only our democracy, not only our security, but our sovereignty is under great threat,” the Congress party said

The Congress party has demanded a Supreme Court-monitored judicial probe into the revelations, made public by Project Pegasus, of spying by the BJP-led Central government on politicians, lawyers, and journalists among others in the country.

“The scandalous revelations on the Pegasus Snoopgate by Modi government, tumbling out day after day, prove that not only our democracy, not only our security, but our sovereignty is under great threat,” the party said.

Putting forth its demand, the party continued, “We demand a Supreme Court-monitored judicial probe into this matter.”

Various leaders and workers from the party also held a protest demonstration against the serious revelations made by the Project Pegasus.

“The protest of the Congress continues from the road to the Parliament against the espionage scandal of the BJP government,” the party said, adding that Congress MPs protested in front of the Gandhi statue in the Parliament premises against the ‘spying scandal’ of the BJP government.

“Do not be afraid, will fight Pegasus Snoopgate,” Congress vowed in a tweet.

Meanwhile, the proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament continued to remain paralyzed on Thursday as Opposition members protested over a number of issues including the Pegasus snooping controversy.

The Rajya Sabha witnessed some ugly scenes and tense moments when it met at 2 PM after two adjournments as a Trinamool member, Dr Santanu Sen, snatched and tore the statement being read out by Information Technology (IT) Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on the Pegasus spyware episode. Minutes later, the House was adjourned for the day. However, the hostilities continued.
