Young man caught by BSF while trying to enter Pakistan, says he wanted to go to Saudi Arabia

Amid heightened surveillance on the Pakistan border after Operation Sindoor, a major incident has come to light from Jaisalmer. The Border Security Force (BSF) has taken into custody a young man from West Bengal who was found roaming suspiciously near the border.
The accused has been identified as Lalchand Sheikh (30), a resident of Bardhaman, West Bengal. On Wednesday evening, he was caught by a BSF patrol team in the Pochina area, about 15 kilometers from the international border. During interrogation, he could not provide a satisfactory reason for his presence and was later handed over to Myajlar police.
Said he wanted to go to Saudi Arabia via Pakistan
During police and agency questioning, the accused claimed that he wanted to reach Saudi Arabia through Pakistan. According to information, his brother is already working in Saudi Arabia as a laborer. For this reason, he tried to take the wrong route, attempting to go via Pakistan.
However, security agencies are not fully convinced by his explanation. He will now be presented before a Joint Investigation Committee (JIC) to determine whether he is part of a larger network.
Tighter security after Operation Sindoor
Since Operation Sindoor, security forces have been on high alert along the borders of Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Bikaner districts in Rajasthan. Continuous surveillance is being maintained to prevent infiltration, smuggling, and espionage attempts across the border. As a result of this vigilance, many suspects have been caught in time.
Rising cases of espionage in Jaisalmer
This year alone, three major espionage cases have been exposed in Jaisalmer district:
March 26: Before the Pahalgam terror attack, Pathan Khan, a resident of Karamo ki Dhani near the Chandhan Field Firing Range, was arrested under the Official Secrets Act.
May 28 – June 3: Shakoor Khan, a former personal assistant to ex-Congress minister Saleh Mohammad, was arrested for allegedly spying for a Pakistani intelligence agency.
August 4: Mahendra Prasad, manager of the DRDO guest house in Jaisalmer, was caught sending Army information to a Pakistani handler.
Now, the arrest of Lalchand Sheikh once again underscores the vigilance and alertness of security agencies.
Security agencies remain cautious
Officials said the youth’s statements are being thoroughly investigated. His mobile records and contacts are being examined to determine whether any Pakistani network is active behind him.
The desert region of Jaisalmer and western Rajasthan has always been on the radar of Pakistani intelligence agencies. That is why every suspicious activity here is taken with the utmost seriousness.
