BSF Seizes ₹8.5 Crore Heroin Near Indo-Pak Border in Bikaner

In a precision-led joint operation, the Border Security Force’s (BSF) Intelligence Branch in Bikaner intercepted a major heroin smuggling attempt from across the Indo-Pak border, seizing 1.665 kilograms of the narcotic valued at ₹8.50 crore in the international market.
The bust took place near village 21 BD, just a few kilometres from the border. The contraband had been carefully concealed in the desert sands — a method long used by traffickers to avoid detection.
From Intel to Interception
The breakthrough began with actionable intelligence pointing to a Pakistani-backed smuggling attempt. The consignment was believed to have been pushed across the border for later pickup by couriers under the cover of night.
Acting swiftly, the BSF’s Bikaner Intelligence Branch joined forces with Khajuwala Police. Senior officers led the mission, including Shri Ajay Luthra, DIG, Sector Headquarters Bikaner; Shri Dhananjay Mishra, DIG, Intelligence Branch Jodhpur; Shri Abhimanyu Jha, Commandant, 96 Battalion BSF; and Shri Mahesh Chand Jat, Deputy Commandant, Intelligence Branch Bikaner.
Using a grid-search pattern, the teams scoured dunes and depressions, areas often used by smugglers as hiding spots. The heroin was located during this systematic sweep, packed in a manner designed to evade detection.
Why This Seizure Matters

Officials say the value of this operation lies far beyond the seized drugs’ market price. Narcotics smuggling in border regions is often linked to funding extremist groups, supplying weapons, and sustaining anti-India networks. Heroin from Afghanistan’s poppy belt, routed through Pakistan, has increasingly been finding its way into Rajasthan’s Bikaner and Jaisalmer sectors, replacing older smuggling trades like livestock theft.
BSF’s Sustained Push Against Narco-Trafficking
The Bikaner Intelligence Branch has built a track record of hitting smuggling networks hard through a mix of human intelligence, technical surveillance, and close coordination with local police. Over the past year, the unit has pulled off multiple high-value seizures.
Beyond enforcement, officers such as Shri Mahesh Chand Jat are also working at the grassroots level, conducting awareness drives in villages near the border. These initiatives warn youth about drug abuse and expose the tactics smugglers use to recruit carriers.
A Team Effort at the Frontline

The operation’s success also reflects the commitment of officers on the ground – Shri Shiv Bhaskar Tiwari, Second-in-Command; Shri Arun Kumar, Deputy Commandant; Inspector Indraj Singh Badsara of the 96 Battalion; and Inspector Kamlesh Kumar from the Intelligence Branch, Bikaner.
By intercepting this consignment, the BSF has not only stopped drugs from entering Indian markets but also sent a clear message to cross-border syndicates: the watch at the border never drops.
