Jolly LLB 3 in a legal tangle; Arshad, Akshay get Pune court summons

When director Subhash Kapoor thought of churning out an even bigger hit with a sequel of his immensely popular comedy films Jolly LLB and Jolly LLB 2, he never would have imagined legal trouble was in the offing!

Set in the backdrop of courts, the Jolly LLB series is set to unleash a third instalment that goes by the title Jolly LLB 3. However, a summons has come calling from a civil court in Pune. The court has summoned not just Kapoor, but also his leading men Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar, who will be starring alongside each other in the third iteration.

The Pune civil court’s summons comes seeking the men behind Jolly LLB 3 following a complaint filed by Wajed Rahim Khan, an advocate. The petitioner’s contention is that the film belittles the judiciary and that the content of the film disrespects the judiciary in a major way.

Lawyer objects to content, says it disrespects judiciary

Following the plaint, Arshad Warsi, Akshay Kumar and Subhash Kapoor have been asked to appear in person before the court in Pune on October 28 at 11 am.

Advocate Wajed Rahim Khan has also said in his plaint that he has objections to the way the legal profession has been portrayed in negative light. A scene in the film that refers to judges as ‘mama’ has been singled out by the complainant for the court to look into.

It has been reported that the first teaser that came out in 2024 triggered the dislike for the way the film’s content has been conceived. Wajed Khan, obviously, didn’t like it a bit and found it offensive. This seems to have made him seek the court’s intervention.

Expectations high for Jolly LLB 3

The film has been riding a lot of expectations, considering that the first two instalments of the franchise were super hits. The first one in the franchise – Jolly LLB, starring Arshad Warsi in the lead role, went on to be applauded by critics as well as the masses. The comic element and the issue the film handled were exemplary, making it a super hit in 2013.

It has been revealed that the film, which was made on a Rs 10 crore budget, earned around ₹50 crore. Arshad Warsi gave way to Akshay Kumar when the second iteration was announced and the film also went on to collect more than Rs 200 crore.

Now with Arshad and Akshay teaming up with Subhash Kapoor for Jolly LLB 3, the excitement has been rising. However, the Pune civil court’s intervention on a complaint could prove to be a dampener. Or will it actually help if the court decision would not be too harsh as the complainant wants it to be?
