Ukrainian President Urges Global Partners to Enhance Support Amid Intensifying Conflict
In a series of tweets today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted the severe escalation in Russian military attacks against Ukraine and detailed significant new defense agreements with international partners.
“Since the beginning of this week alone, Russia has used more than 700 guided aerial bombs, over 170 combat drones of various types, and nearly 80 missiles against Ukraine,” Zelenskyy stated. He emphasized the necessity for an equally substantial response to protect lives, urging Ukraine’s partners to continue and enhance their support. “The scale of this evil must be matched by the scale of decisions to protect lives. Each partner can make a difference and strengthen the defense against terror. Ukraine is grateful to all our friends who do just that. Together, we will overcome evil.”
Zelenskyy’s remarks come amidst a week filled with crucial events and negotiations, including a successful visit to the United States. During this visit, Ukraine secured new Patriot systems and dozens of other air defense systems, bolstering its defensive capabilities. “We are working tirelessly to increase the strength and number of Ukrainian Patriots. I’m grateful to all partners who support us,” Zelenskyy noted.
In addition to the United States, Ukraine has secured three new security agreements with Poland, Luxembourg, and Romania. Further agreements are in progress with the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Ireland, following a productive meeting with the Irish Prime Minister. These agreements aim to enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities and support its recovery efforts.
Zelenskyy also highlighted the Ukrainian Compact, approved at the NATO Summit in Washington. This compact focuses on providing weapons for Ukrainian soldiers, fostering collaboration between defense companies and Ukraine, and supporting the country’s recovery. Zelenskyy praised the concrete and genuine support reflected in these initiatives.
The Ukrainian President’s tweets also touched upon an unexpected topic – the recent attack on former U.S. President Donald Trump. Zelenskyy condemned the attack, calling it a horrific crime that must be condemned, and expressed confidence in America’s resilience. “The terrible attack on Donald Trump is a horrific crime that must be condemned. It shows the serious global challenges facing democracy. Violence in any form, anywhere, must never prevail. I am confident America will overcome this challenge,” he wrote. Zelenskyy wished Trump a speedy recovery and extended strength to all those affected, expressing hope that security would be restored and malevolent intentions would fail.
As Ukraine continues to face relentless aggression from Russia, the international community’s support remains crucial. Zelenskyy’s call to action underscores the importance of solidarity and decisive action in the face of escalating threats.
