Xiaomi likely to offer 120W super-fast charging in mid-range smartphones
The Redmi Note 11 Pro+, slated to be launched on October 28, will be the first mid-ranger from the company which can charge at 120W.
Xiaomi will debut the Redmi Note 11 series and the Redmi Watch 2 in China on October 28.
Prior to the official launch, the company has released a teaser in which it outlines the Redmi Note 11, Note 11 Pro, and Note 11 Pro+, as well as confirming compatibility for up to 120W fast charging.
Redmi Note 11 Pro+ to take 20 minutes for full charge
Only the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ will have a 4,500mAh battery with 120W fast charging capabilities, out of the three models. The phone’s dual-cell battery is meant to minimise charging resistance, while the graphite-based liquid cooling system allows for greater heat dispersion.
The Xiaomi 11T has a 4,500mAh battery with 120W fast charging capabilities and promises to be able to charge from 0 to 100 in under 20 minutes. The charging times for the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ should be similar.
No clarity whether 120W charger will be in-the-box
The Redmi Note 11 Pro+ will only be able to charge at 120W, while the Pro model will only be able to charge at 66W. It’s also unclear if Xiaomi will provide a 120W power adapter with the gadget or whether it will be sold standalone.
Xiaomi has sticked to lower charging speeds outside China
Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 10 series, as per XDA Developers, also enabled 66W charging capabilities, however, this functionality was strangely confined to the Chinese variety; overseas models only supported 33W charging.
It, therefore, will be interesting to see during the Redmi Note 11 series’ worldwide launch whether Xiaomi decides to deploy this functionality outside of China.
Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, a 3.5mm headphone connector, and JBL-tuned stereo speakers are among the other known specifications of the Redmi Note 11 series.
120W charging capability to make Xiaomi’s Note 11 series lucrative
Xiaomi launching a mid-range smartphone with 120W fast-charging capabilities will be noteworthy, as such speeds have previously only been available in premium and flagship Android handsets.
The Redmi Note series has always been a huge hit for Xiaomi, particularly in the Indian market and if these teasers are any indication, the success of the latest smartphone series is a given.
