Mumbai Indians have appointed Hardik Pandya as captain, relieving Rohit Sharma of his leadership duties for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Speaking on the Banter With The Boys podcast, Boucher explained, “Rohit has not had the best couple of seasons of late with the bat, but he has done well as a captain.” With Mumbai Indians facing a slump in the past few IPL seasons despite their earlier successes, the management felt it was time for a change in leadership to reignite the team’s performance.

Acknowledging Rohit Sharma’s invaluable contribution as both player and captain, Boucher expressed the team’s intention to continue benefiting from his cricketing prowess while allowing him to play with a lighter mindset. “We still want him as a player because we believe he still has a great value to add, and just go out and enjoy it, without the hype of being a captain,” said Boucher.
