Full-page newspaper ads can’t hide UP farmers’ plight: Priyanka Gandhi

The Congress leader also asked about the pricing of sugarcane, black agricultural regulations, inflation, and the cost of electricity.

NEW DELHI — Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday said the Uttar Pradesh state administration cannot disguise the farmers’ misery by running full-page advertisements in newspapers.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, the Congress chief for Uttar Pradesh said farmers are the heart and spirit of the nation.

Several questions raised by Priyanka Gandhi

Raising several questions, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra asked the Yogi Adityanath-led ruling BJP government as to what the administration was doing about the free domestic animals.

She also demanded answers about the compensation for crop loss provided by the UP government.

The Congress leader raised questions about Sugarcane price, ‘black’ agricultural laws, inflation, and the cost of electricity.

Pertinently, Priyanka’s tweet also had a link to a story from Bhaskar.com about a farmer’s suicide in Kanpur’s Pichaura village.

As per the report, the farmer was depressed since the floods destroyed the village’s crops.

Flood havoc in Kanpur countryside

According to media reports, Yamuna and Sengur rivers are wreaking havoc after incessant rains in the Kanpur countryside.

Yamuna river is flowing five meters above the danger mark, due to which the life of common people has been affected and forcing people to migrate to safer areas.

Many villagers, quoted in a Bhaskar.com report, said that until the floodwaters do not recede in the village, they will spend the days in tents on the roadside and at safer places.

In the name of arrangement, the villagers have accused the district administration of a hoax in the name of making arrangements.

“The situation is such that the boats that have been installed are so small that it is not easy to get out of the village with the help of those with many people still trapped in the floodwaters,” the report added.
