Democratic & national security institutions spied on using Pegasus: Congress

“How can the Modi govt think this is not an issue?” the Party tweeted about Pegasus scandal, using the hashtag #BJPDebateSeDaroMat while daring the BJP for debate over the scandal in the Parliament.

NEW DELHI — The Congress party on Saturday stated that the BJP-led Central government used the spyware Pegasus for spying on ‘almost all’ the democratic and national security institutions in the country.

“Almost every democratic & national security institution in the nation has been spied on using Pegasus spyware, how can the Modi govt think this is not an issue?” the Party tweeted, using the hashtag #BJPDebateSeDaroMat while daring the BJP for debate over the scandal in the Parliament.

“Everything that is an issue to the Indian people is a ‘non-issue’ to the Modi govt. And everything that is an issue to the Modi govt is causing issues for the Indian people,” the Party maintained.

Pegasus Spyware, developed by the Israeli firm NSO Group, is intended for use against terrorists and criminals, the Party said, adding that in India, civilians were subjected to spyware, but the Modi government seemed unconcerned.

It further accused, “Modi government spied on citizens instead of criminals, it was not done for the security of the country but to protect its politics. For the Modi government, politics is above the nation. This ambition of the Modi government is weighing heavily on the country.”

According to the Congress, the Pegasus issue may be unnecessary for the Modi government but the Pegasus scandal in which the judiciary, the Army, the opposition and journalists have been spied, such a case cannot be unnecessary.

“BJP will have to answer on the espionage case,” the Congress party demanded.
