CM Pramod Sawant said the assured price in future will be fixed as per the cost of cultivation in Goan conditions

The chief minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, on Tuesday stated that there has been a steep rise in the procurement of local vegetables by Horticulture Corporation Limited over the last couple of years and the government was, therefore, planning to fix the prices of crops as per the local cost conditions.

According to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, there has been a steep rise in the procurement of local vegetables from local farmers by Horticulture Corporation Limited in the last two years.

It indicates a great increase in production by Goan farmers, CM Pramod Sawant stated.

Mr. Pramod announced that the government had added more crops under assured price and market, thereby giving a boost to the farmers for increasing crop production.

“To provide further impetus to the sector, the assured price in future will be fixed as per the cost of cultivation in Goan conditions,” he stated.

He also congratulated the farmer community for their efforts. “I congratulate the farmers for their efforts towards realizing our goal of Swayampurna Goa,” he added.

The vegetables, which are cultivated in Goa, include Brinjal, Bhendi, Chillies, Cucumber, Pumpkin, Gourds, Musk Melons, Red amaranthus, Raddish, Knol-Khol, Cabbage, Bottle gourd, Long beans, Cluster beans among others.

Rice, however, is the main food crop, and pulses (legume), Ragi (Finger Millet), and other food crops are also grown in Goa. Main cash crops are coconut, cashew-nut, areca nut, sugarcane, and fruits like pineapple, mango, and banana.
