Mehbooba Mufti said in attempts to intimidate political opponents, GOI doesn’t even spare senior citizens

Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party President and former chief minister of erstwhile state, Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central government is intimidating political opponents in the union territory.

According to Mehbooba Mufti, the Government of India is using investigative agencies like National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) for this purpose.

She also added that after she along with her party members decided not to meet the visiting members of the Delimitation Commission in Srinagar, the Government of India sent a summon to her mother through ED for ‘unknown charges’.

“On the day PDP chose not to meet Delimitation Commission, ED sent a summon to my mother to appear in person for unknown charges,” Mehbooba tweeted.

She added, “In its attempts to intimidate political opponents, GOI doesn’t even spare senior citizens. Agencies like NIA & ED are now its tools to settle scores.”

The case has been filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after the ED recovered at least two diaries from an accused associate of Mehbooba Mufti, media reports said.

The diaries, according to officials, contained records of suspected payments made from the chief minister’s discretionary budget, which the ED believes were illegal.

The ED claims that these payments were misappropriated during the former state’s PDP administration.
