Amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Adani Group’s recent agreements with Israel have sparked widespread condemnation, with critics accusing the conglomerate of profiting from the conflict and perpetuating human rights violations.
The Human Rights Forum (HRF) issued a strong rebuke against Adani’s collaboration with Israel, particularly highlighting the deployment of advanced drones that could potentially aid in the ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. The HRF called upon the Indian government to immediately cancel all deals with Israel in light of the atrocities being committed.
Adani-Elbit Advanced Systems India Ltd, a joint venture between Adani Defence and Aerospace and Elbit Systems, Israel, has been singled out for manufacturing advanced drone systems, including the Hermes 900 drones. These drones, equipped with high-resolution imaging and precise bombing capabilities, have been deployed by the Israel military despite international outcry over civilian casualties.
Furthermore, Adani’s partnership with Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) through PLR Systems Pvt Ltd for weapon manufacturing has come under scrutiny. Critics argue that such partnerships not only facilitate Israel’s military actions but also contribute to the global marketing of war technologies developed through the oppression of Palestinians.
The involvement of Gautam Adani, India’s richest man and chairman of the Adani Group, in these controversial deals has intensified scrutiny. Adani’s conglomerate, known for its diverse business ventures, has come under fire for its collaboration with Israel amidst the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The condemnation of Adani’s involvement in Israel’s military-industrial complex comes amidst growing international pressure on countries to cease arms sales and military cooperation with Israel. The International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) recent order, mandating Israel to desist from killing Palestinians and provide urgently needed humanitarian aid, underscores the legal and moral imperative for nations to halt support for Israel’s actions.
Despite mounting criticism and calls for action, India’s stance on its business dealings with Israel remains unchanged. The government’s failure to rescind existing agreements and unequivocally condemn Israel’s actions has drawn criticism from human rights advocates, who argue that India’s complicity perpetuates the suffering of Palestinians.
In response to these developments, the HRF has called for the immediate annulment of all deals with Israel and urged for an unconditional ceasefire in Gaza.
