Mirzapur Season 3 to Stream on Amazon Prime from July 5
The much-anticipated third season of the popular web series “Mirzapur” is set to premiere on Amazon Prime on July 5. Fans have eagerly awaited this release, eager to see what unfolds next in the gritty world of Mirzapur. Directed by Gurmeet Singh, the series continues to captivate audiences with its intense storyline and compelling characters.
Pankaj Tripathi, who plays the beloved character Kaleen Bhaiya, and Ali Fazal, who portrays Guddu, shared their insights and experiences in an exclusive interview.
Excitement Among Fans
Pankaj Tripathi expressed his gratitude for the excitement among fans regarding his character. He mentioned that when a story and its characters become popular, it naturally generates anticipation among the audience. “People are always curious to know what happens next. This is the beauty of web shows; every time, people want to know more,” he said. He also highlighted the global love for the series, noting that even though the story is set in a local backdrop, it has garnered a global audience.
Guddu Bhaiya’s Unique Fan Following
Ali Fazal discussed the unique fan following for his character, Guddu Bhaiya, especially among the youth. He remarked on the character’s evolution from the first season to now, saying, “I try to add different shades to Guddu’s character. The youth can relate to the anger and frustration he portrays regarding societal issues, which is why the fans love him.”
Director’s Perspective on Mirzapur’s Success
Director Gurmeet Singh shared his thoughts on the unexpected success of Mirzapur. He credited writer Puneet Krishna, who hails from Uttar Pradesh and has lived a life that reflects in the series’ realistic touch. “Initially, we didn’t know that people from every corner of India would watch this series. Our good fortune with the OTT platform increased its reach,” he said. He also noted that the elements of family dynamics in the story helped audiences connect with it deeply.
Character Preparation
Both actors discussed their preparation for their roles. Pankaj Tripathi mentioned observing several real-life strongmen in UP and Bihar, but he aimed to make Kaleen Bhaiya’s character more fictional. “I tried to show Kaleen Bhaiya as a very polite man to those who don’t know his background,” he explained.
Ali Fazal, on the other hand, drew inspiration from his childhood fights. “I didn’t look at how many people were in front of me; I just went in to fight and came back beaten up. That’s where the inspiration for Guddu’s character came from, not for the violence, but the spirit,” he shared.
Fan Messages and Memes
The interview also touched on the popularity of Munna’s character and the fan messages director Gurmeet Singh receives about his surprise entry in the third season. He appreciated the love for Munna’s character, even after his death in the second season, and felt it was a win as a director.
Pankaj Tripathi recounted a humorous encounter with fans who recognized him from the viral “Shabash Beta” memes. “After that day, my respect for meme makers increased,” he said. Ali Fazal also shared his experiences with fans and memes, mentioning a unique one combining “3 Idiots” with “Mirzapur” and an amusing interaction with a fan on Instagram.
Challenges and Rewards
Both actors highlighted the camaraderie on set as the best part of working on the series, making long shooting days enjoyable. However, they mentioned the challenging experience of shooting in the extreme summer heat of UP.
Character Reflections
Reflecting on their characters, Pankaj Tripathi noted that both he and Kaleen Bhaiya are soft-spoken, but he disliked the character’s duplicitous nature. Ali Fazal mentioned that he no longer shares much in common with Guddu’s impulsive anger, a trait he used to have but has since outgrown.
With the release just around the corner, fans worldwide are gearing up to dive back into the intense and thrilling world of Mirzapur.
