Tech majors mull bringing staffers back to offices; Closing hours for WFH?

Prominent IT companies are looking to bring employees back from WFH mode as pandemic scene eases

It looks like the work from home (WFH) scenario is slowly being folded up. With the Covid-19 cases decreasing at a steady rate of late, companies in the technology arena are mulling over bringing employees back to the offices.

Work from home had been facilitated when the pandemic raged, with restrictions on travel and protocols that demanded social distancing were put in place. IT companies made sure that work never got impacted as employees were provided with the facility of working remotely, and meeting project deadlines.

Virus situation wanes, WFH too may see phased closing

The scenario had been so smooth that many companies were even planning to continue with the work from home arrangement for employees as work was not affected and the scene also helped them save infrastructure and logistics costs in a major manner.

Now with the virus scenario on the downward trend, top technology companies are set to bring staffers back to offices. It has been reported that tech majors such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Wipro, Cognizant, Infosys and many others are sending out mails to their employees to gear up for a back to office mode. They have been intimated that the employers would most probably call them back to the offices as early as next month.

While Wipro is expected to call back staffers at the managerial level and above, companies such as Cognizant are opening offices offering employees the option of coming back by April. Wipro is expected to ask its vaccinated employees who are being called back to offices to attend office two days a week.

Phased return, hybrid work model may be practiced

Meanwhile, Infosys Technologies is expected to usher in a good number of its employees in the next four months. However, the remaining months of the year 2022 is expected to see Infosys carry on with a hybrid work model with some working at the offices and others remotely. TCS is also said to be working on a hybrid work model. TCS has also put in place a remote working policy that allows employees to work from the base location even they have chosen the work from home option.

It has been almost two full years since IT employees began working remotely after having handed the WFH model owing to the pandemic situation. Now with companies mulling over welcoming employees back, though in a phased manner, it looks like life turns a full circle for these employees who have become used to the work from home scenario.
