Bringing Digital Emotional Experience to the fore

DEE stands for ‘Digital Emotional Experience,’ and explains how the car can be flawlessly connected to the user’s digital life. The best part of the i Vision DEE is the next generation E-Ink technology which was first showcased on the iX at CES 2022 but was limited to Black & White.

Now, on the i Vision DEE, it is offered in a range of 32 colours with the surface of the car divided into 240 segments on an ePaper film. BMW says, the concept has a “digital soul, a personality not only with a voice but with facial expressions, too.”

Another feature on display exposed the capability of projecting augmented reality images on the windshield and turn it into a full-fledged screen with technology that mixes “real and virtual worlds.’ The car’s head-up display projects information across the entire width of the windshield. This full-width heads-up display would be used on BMW models based on the Neue Klasse platform from 2025.

The BMW event at CES was attended by actor-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger who recollected about the relationship people had with their cars in the 1980s, while the voice of Dee tried to convince him that the cars of the future are really the ultimate companions.

The concept carries the conventional three-box sedan body style with BMW legacy elements such as the signature kidney grille, twin headlamps and the Hofmeister kink. Going by what the BMW Group chairman Oliver Zipse says, with the BMW i Vision Dee, the company is showcasing what is possible when hardware and software merge. In this way, we are able to exploit the full potential of digitalization to transform the car into an intelligent companion, he adds.
