Qualcomm has begun work on building its second biggest campus in Hyderabad, which will employ 8,700 people
The fairly new state of Telangana has been doing its bit to attract mega investments, and it is now seeing a slew of companies lining up to pump in money into the state. Among them is software and semiconductor behemoth Qualcomm, which is kicking off measures to set up its second largest campus, after the US, in the state capital of Hyderabad.
Qualcomm is said to have earmarked an investment to the tune of Rs 3,904.55 crore, over the next five years. The company has already begun work on its campus, and it is expected to go on stream by October this year. Besides, the tech major is looking at providing employment to as many as 8700 at the new this facility.
Qualcomm latest addition in Telangana tech majors
With the Qualcomm facility going on stream in Hyderabad, it will be the latest in a long list of companies who are building large campuses outside of the US in Hyderabad.
Qualcomm has already briefed the government of Telangana about the plans and strategies it has put together for the upcoming Hyderabad campus. Going by a report, the Hyderabad campus which will be the company’s second largest outside the United States and will be spread across 15.72 lakh sqft of space.
The arrival of Qualcomm needs to be seen as a follow up to the state government’s industry friendly policies as well as the presence of talented manpower in Telangana. Over the five-year period, the company is to bring in more money into the campus as investment. The report added that Qualcomm will eye opportunities in agriculture, education, connected devices and smart cities, apart from software.
More tech majors plan Hyderabad centres
Qualcomm’s presence in Hyderabad is seen as a boost to the Telangana government, as the company has carved a niche in the areas of semiconductors, software, and services related to wireless technology. With patents critical to the 5G, 4G, CDMA and other mobile communications standards, the future looks rosy for the company in India.
Besides Qualcomm, it is expected that two other US majors have also lined up their expansion in India with centres in Hyderabad. Golf equipment company Callaway Golf and electric vehicles major Fisker Inc are the two companies that have charted out plans to set up their technology centres in Hyderabad, and they together will generate as many as 600 jobs.
