As of Sept 2021, the company valuation was estimated to be $40bn in September 2022.

It started as a design platform however, later on, Canva acquired several other platforms including Germany-based free stock photography sites Pixabay and Pexels to expand their in-house image components for the users. It also acquired the Czech company Smartmockups and an Austrian startup Kaleido.ai to further encompass all design requirements under a single umbrella.

It faced a major security breach in May 2019 which was reported to the FBI. The design platform requested all its users to change passwords for their security, irrespective of whether their accounts were breached or not.
