A Record-Breaking 112 Athletes Set to Compete Across 69 Medal Events in 16 Sports.

From Neeraj Chopra’s Javelin Throw to PV Sindhu’s Badminton Matches, Indian Athletes Gear Up for an Exciting Olympic Campaign Starting July 25

As the Paris 2024 Olympics kick off on July 25, India is set to make a formidable impact with 112 athletes competing across 69 medal events in 16 sports. This marks the largest contingent India has ever fielded at the Olympics, surpassing the previous record of 128 athletes at Tokyo 2020.

Athletics: Leading the Charge

A 29-member athletics team will be a significant part of the Indian contingent. Spearheaded by Neeraj Chopra, the defending champion in men’s javelin throw, the team is poised to compete in 16 medal events. Neeraj Chopra will begin his quest for a second Olympic gold with qualifiers on August 6 and the finals on August 8.

Shooting: Aiming High

India’s shooting squad, consisting of 21 athletes, is the second-largest team representing the country. The mixed team 10m air rifle events, scheduled for July 27, will provide India’s first medal opportunity. Key participants include Sandeep Singh, Elavenil Valarivan, Arjun Babuta, Ramita Jindal, and Manu Bhaker, who will compete in multiple pistol events.

Archery: Taking the First Shot

The archers, including Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai, will be the first Indians to compete at Paris 2024, participating in the individual ranking rounds on July 25, a day before the Opening Ceremony.

Key Athletes and Events

  • PV Sindhu: The two-time Olympic medalist will compete in badminton events from July 27 to August 5.
