Nampally Derailment Raises Safety Concerns: Investigation Underway as Charminar Express Coaches Overshoot Station Endpoint.

In a recent incident at Nampally Railway Station, three coaches of the Charminar Express derailed, resulting in minor injuries to six individuals. The mishap occurred around 9:15 am on Wednesday when the train, bound for Chennai, overshot the terminal point at the station.

The affected coaches—S2, S3, and S6—experienced derailment, causing injuries to passengers who were standing near the doors. Prompt medical attention is being provided to the injured at the Railway Hospital, as confirmed by Rakesh, CPRO, South Central Railway.

Railway officials stated that the train was traveling at a slow speed when it exceeded the designated stopping point, leading to the derailment. The resulting jolt caused minor injuries to those in the vicinity. The Charminar Express had originated from Chennai and reached Hyderabad on Tuesday night.

An official inquiry has been initiated to determine the precise cause of the incident, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into this unfortunate event. This marks the second reported train derailment in India this year, following a similar incident near Kota Junction on January 6 involving a Bhopal-bound passenger train.

Recalling the challenges of the previous year, India faced a significant number of train accidents, with the most devastating occurring in Odisha’s Balasore on June 2. The tragic event claimed 296 lives, making it the worst train accident in Indian history. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues its investigation into the Balasore accident, having filed a charge-sheet. Two section engineers and one technician have been arrested in connection with the incident. The rail authorities remain committed to enhancing safety measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
