Authorities revoke former CM Omar Abdullah’s detention under PSA

The Government on Tuesday revoked the PSA detention order against former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The order comes to pave the way for his release after over seven month’s detention.

Earlier today, Omar Abdullah was released and allowed to go home.

The news was first broken by J&K Government’s spokesman, Rohit Kansal, who tweeted on his personal handle, “Govt issues orders revoking detention of Shri Omar Abdullah.”

Meanwhile, sources privy to the development said that the release of other political leaders, including Mehbooba Mufti, is under active consideration. “All aspects are being looked into. A decision would be taken soon,” sources said.

It is in place to mention that the order of Omar’s PSA revocation comes less than a week after Supreme Court asked the government of India to inform it if it was planning to release him from detention.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra ( General Secretary, Indian National Congress ) also commented on the revocation of Abdullah’s detention.

On February 10, Omar’s sister had moved the apex court challenging his detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
