Panner Dam: Frozen but mesmerizing dam in South Kashmir

Green forests cover the Panner dam adding to its beauty.

Pulwama, J&K

A water dam, known locally as ‘Panner Dam’, has become one of the favourite places of the local people especially the youth in south Kashmir’s Tral area after it froze due to minus temperatures.

Located at Panner Jageer village of Pulwama district, the dam is mesmerizing and wonderful.

In summers, the Panner Dam is a great attraction to tourists. People enjoy the serene beauty of the place in the hot summer season.

“The dam is quite old and acts as a source of irrigation for nearby paddy fields of Panner and Mandoora villages in summers. Also, children from nearby areas bath here to beat the heat in hot weather conditions,” locals said.

However, the dam continues to be neglected by the local authorities. According to locals, it has good potential for development as a tourist place.

“The dam was without an accessible road which gave tough time to visitors. A road was developed recently, which is now waiting for government attention to make further development,” a local said.

Interestingly, green forests cover the Panner dam. This adds to the beauty of this place and equally catches the attention of visitors.

The local people request the authorities to develop this place. They urge the government to make the Panner Dam a tourist attraction so that people can also enjoy its beauty.
