Iranian and Iraqi Presidents Rally Muslim Unity Against Israeli Assaults in Gaza

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Latif Rashid have jointly called for Muslim solidarity to put an end to Israeli assaults in the Gaza Strip and safeguard Palestinian rights. In a recent telephone conversation, Raisi expressed deep frustration over the failure of the global community, notably the United Nations Security Council, to effectively address the escalating crisis in Gaza.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Raisi emphasized the imperative need for concerted efforts, particularly within the Muslim world, to bring about a resolution to the Gaza conflict. He underscored the conflict’s significance not only for Iran and Iraq but also for the broader Muslim community, framing it as both a religious obligation and a humanitarian duty to halt Israeli aggression.

Moreover, Raisi underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Iran and Iraq, citing their shared cultural and historical bonds. Despite external challenges, he expressed hope for enhanced cooperation between the two nations in the forthcoming months.

Echoing Raisi’s sentiments, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid condemned the ongoing Israeli actions in Gaza and criticized the inadequacy of international measures in halting them. Rashid advocated for a strategic approach by Muslim countries to address the root causes of the Palestinian issue and ensure the protection of Palestinian rights.

Characterizing the Baghdad-Tehran relationship as robust and mutually beneficial, Rashid reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to advancing ties with Iran, regardless of external pressures. Both leaders emphasized the need for Muslim unity and collective action to confront the Israeli aggression in Gaza effectively.

The joint statement from the Iranian and Iraqi presidents underscores a growing regional consensus on the urgency of addressing the Palestinian crisis and the imperative for Muslim nations to unite in solidarity. As the violence in Gaza persists, their call for action signals a renewed commitment to advancing peace and stability in the region.
