India v England: Suryakumar Yadav Departs for England Counting Blessings

The India v England series will mark the start of the second cycle for the second world test championship

Colombo [Sri Lanka]: In a classic case of one’s curse being another one’s blessing, the goddess of luck smiled on Indian middle order batsman Suryakumar Yadav and the marquee opener batsman Prithvi Shaw. As Shubhman Gill, Washington Sundar, and Avesh Khan were ruled out of the test series against England, owing to injuries, the two players were added to the squad. Shortly after the announcement of the replacement, Mayank Aggarwal was also ruled out of the said series owing to injury once again.

As SKY (Suryakumar Yadav’s Team nickname) departed for England, he posted a photo on the micro-blogging site twitter, where he appeared to be counting his blessings for the opportunity.

The five match test series between India and England is scheduled to take off tomorrow with the first test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. The India v England series will mark the start of the second cycle for the second world test championship with the newly crowned New Zealand as the defenders.

SKY posted a photo on Twitter and he captioned the post: “Counting my blessings. Next stop, England.”

Before this, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah, had shown his full support towards the request made by the Indian team to have SKY and Shaw join the contingent for the India v England series. This came after there were doubts on whether there will be a change of plan with the duo being isolated as close contacts of Krunal Pandya in Colombo ahead of the second T20I in the Island Nation.

Sources in the know of developments had said the board officials discussed the situation after Suryakumar and Shaw had to be isolated ahead of the second T20I against Sri Lanka, but the board secretary backed the call from skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri to send the duo to UK for the Test series.

The BCCI had on July 26 informed that the All-India Senior Selection Committee had named Prithvi and Suryakumar as replacements for the upcoming India v England Test series as all-rounder Washington Sundar, batsman Shubman Gill and pacer Avesh Khan had been ruled out of the tour due to injuries.

As per the release, Sundar had taken an injection on his right-hand bowling finger during the three-day practice game against County Select XI. However, his recovery will take longer than expected and he is not bowling-fit. As a result, the spinner had been ruled out of the remainder of the England tour.
