In the heartland of East Champaran district in Bihar emerged a tale of triumph against all odds- the story of Kumar Vijayendra. From the depths of acute poverty, he emerged as a shining beacon of hope, embodying the values of hard work and an indomitable spirit instilled by his parents.

Kumar’s educational journey served as a stepping stone to greatness. With early schooling at Don Bosco Academy and St. Michael’s Patna, he displayed extraordinary brilliance, culminating in securing the top spot in the State for his Higher Secondary (CBSE +2) examination.

Determined to soar higher, Kumar sought the hallowed halls of the University of Delhi in pursuit of higher education. Ramjas College, D.U., embraced him for his B. Com (Hons.), where he once again achieved academic supremacy, topping his college. Eager for greater challenges, he then set his sights on Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), University of Delhi, for his M. Com, where he stood tall among the top 5 students in the entire University.

Kumar’s relentless pursuit of excellence extended into the realm of entrepreneurship after his post-graduation. He founded a finance and accounts tax consultancy service, offering comprehensive financial solutions to small businesses. Although his venture thrived, driven by the urge to create a bigger impact, he participated in the Bihar State Civil Services Examination, where he emerged victorious and became an Administrative Services Officer.

Venturing into the domain of government administration, Kumar proved his mettle in the districts of Sitamarhi and Khagaria in Bihar. He spearheaded transformational initiatives in the Electricity Department, implemented the Right to Public Services Act, and initiated banking reforms and public grievance redressal mechanisms. His exemplary work did not go unnoticed; he was appointed the Official Private Secretary to the Cabinet Minister of Rural Development. In this role, Kumar played a pivotal part in implementing visionary projects like NRLM’s mission to build toilets for the underprivileged, HGHY for decentralized planning, and World Bank’s SLACC program.

Driven by an unyielding passion for knowledge and personal growth, Kumar pursued an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, receiving an unprecedented 70% scholarship in recognition of his potential. During his MBA program, Kumar’s leadership abilities were evident as he was elected Vice President of the Student Executive Board in his first year. In the subsequent year, he served as the President of the Indian Graduate Students Association, representing Indian-origin graduate students across seventeen colleges within the University. At the end of his MBA journey, Kumar was honored with induction into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society for academic excellence and the prestigious Marshall Alan Robinson Prize of Excellence. The awards are a testament to his outstanding capabilities among students from thirteen countries.

Post-MBA, Kumar’s entrepreneurial drive led him to gain practical experience by joining a small company before establishing his logistics and transportation business. Through his perseverance and astute leadership, the company flourished, employing over 80 individuals, and earning recognition as a top performer in the industry.

Apart from his successful ventures, Kumar actively contributes to the growth of his community. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Hollister Downtown Association, dedicated to the economic development of the City of Hollister, California. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Food Bank of San Benito County.

A prolific writer and thought leader, Kumar Vijayendra published his first book, “The Sustainable Entrepreneur,” inspiring small businesses to integrate sustainability into their core strategies. With three upcoming books, “From Attrition to Engagement,” “Hire Good and Hire Fast,” and “Say No to Change,” he continues to empower others through his knowledge and insights.
