NTPC and Numaligarh Refinery Limited Forge Strategic Partnership for Green Initiatives

NTPC and NRL's Collaborative Endeavor Aims to Redefine Green Chemistry and Propel the North East Towards Sustainable Development.

In a significant development towards promoting green initiatives and sustainable solutions, NTPC Limited, India’s largest integrated power utility, has entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), a subsidiary of Oil India Limited. The collaboration aims to explore partnership opportunities in the establishment of a bamboo-based Bio-Refinery at NTPC Bongaigaon, along with other green projects.

The partnership, formalized through the MoU signed on January 30th, 2024, underscores the commitment of both Central Public Sector Enterprises to expand their presence in the green chemicals sector. This initiative is aligned with the shared goal of contributing to the nation’s Net-Zero targets and actively participating in the sustainable development of the North Eastern Region.

The signing ceremony, held in the presence of prominent leaders, included Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD NTPC; Dr. Ranjit Rath, CMD OIL & Chairman NRL; and Shri Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, MD NRL.

NTPC’s Renewable Energy Commitment: NTPC Limited is steadfast in its commitment to achieving 60 GW of Renewable Energy capacity by the year 2032. As a major player in the Green Hydrogen and Energy Storage domain, the company is actively involved in various initiatives aimed at decarbonization. These initiatives include Green Hydrogen, Biofuels, Carbon Capture, and Hydrogen Mobility.

The collaboration with NRL marks a crucial step for NTPC in realizing its renewable energy targets, emphasizing a diversified approach that includes the development of bamboo-based Bio-Refinery and other green projects. The strategic alliance is poised to contribute significantly to the sustainable growth and environmental goals of the region.

Both NTPC and NRL, with their combined expertise and resources, are set to play a pivotal role in advancing the nation’s agenda for clean and sustainable energy solutions, fostering a greener and more resilient future.
