Tribute to Rishi Kapoor as Sharmaji Namkeen set for Prime Video premiere

Prime Video premieres Sharmaji Namkeen, Rishi Kapoor’s last onscreen portrayal, on March 31

When Amazon Prime Video commences the exclusive world premiere of Hindi flick Sharmaji Namkeen, it would be a tribute to the late actor Rishi Kapoor. Prime Video has announced that it will premiere Kapoor’s last film directed by Hitesh Bhatia, starting March 31.

Legendary actor Rishi Kapoor had passed away after being troubled by leukaemia in April, 2020. He was 67. Sharmaji Namkeen is his last onscreen portrayal, and is said to be the tale of an ordinary man and his extraordinary pursuit to find a new meaning in life.

Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment in association with Honey Trehan and Abhishek Chaubey of MacGuffin Pictures, Sharmaji Namkeen comes with an ensemble cast, and it stars Paresh Rawal, Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha, and Isha Talwar. Significant about the film is that it is the first ever Hindi film to have two actors– Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal – playing one character.

Sharmaji Namkeen on Prime Video from March 31

When Prime Video premieres the film on March 31, it will bring before the OTT platform audiences from across 240 countries and territories worldwide. The film is expected to narrate a relatable and heartwarming story of self-realization and discovery, and will have Rishi Kapoor playing the role of a retired gentleman who finds out that his passion lies in cooking. Kapoor’s character stumbles upon a riotous women’s kitty circle and decides to pursue cooking as a passion.

Amazon Prime Video sees the film as helping the OTT platform pursue its efforts in continuously deliver content that keeps customers engaged and entertained. Prime Video believes that Sharmaji Namkeen will be truly special as it would be the opportunity to pay tribute to the acting brilliance of the late Rishi Kapoor. Alongside, the talent of Paresh Rawal will also be explored further by the movie.

Rishi Kapoor, who has been immensely missed by the Hindu film audience after his death, is sure to see Sharmaji Namkeen as a tribute to the legendary actor. Though Rishi Kapoor had played popular roles in many films during his young age, he had been applauded by critics and the masses alike when he had returned to play mature characters.

Flicks like Do Dooni Char, Mulk, 102 Not Out, Agneepath brought out the charm of the actor who was waiting to be explored for years together. His portrayal of characters during the later stage of his career stands testimony to the genius he was.  With Sharmaji Namkeen set to hit the OTT screen, it is time to pay our humble tributes to the legend he was.
