Three JeM militants killed in gunfight in J-K’s Tral area

According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the slain militants were affiliated to the outlawed militant organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

SRINAGAR (J&K) In an encounter between militants and security personnel in the higher reaches of the forest region of Nagbaeran Tral area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, three militants were neutralized as per the local police.

The slain militants were linked to the banned militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), according to the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Three unnamed ‘terrorists’ linked to the banned group JeM have been killed, the police said, adding that the searches were going on in the area and further information was expected soon.

Slain militants still not identified

The JeM militants have not been identified yet, according to Inspector General of Police for Kashmir Range, Vijay Kumar, who was quoted by a local news agency.

Earlier, reports said that a joint team of J-K Police and Indian Army soldiers started a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the Tral forests. As the combined team of security forces approached the suspicious location, the hidden militants opened fire on them, sparking a gunfight.

DGP orders intensifying anti-militancy operations

Meanwhile, the DGP Dilbagh Singh pays a visit to Kulgam district on Friday and convenes a meeting of officials to discuss the present security situation.

The DGP, speaking to the officers at the meeting, emphasized the importance of increased cordon and search operations to eliminate ‘remaining’ militants.

For the safety and security of the people, he instructed the officers to reinforce and augment the intelligence and security grids in their respective districts.

All suspicious elements offering any type of assistance to militants, according to the DGP, should be kept under surveillance in order to disrupt their attempts.

He instructed that those proven to be participating in anti-peace actions to be dealt harshly.

The DGP ordered officials to inform their respective officers and personnel on a regular basis, particularly the forces defending critical sites and important individuals.

During the meeting, officers from various forces briefed the DGP on the various steps taken on various fronts to ensure the safety and security of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
