Iran’s UN Envoy Asserts Retaliatory Strike Against Israeli Regime Was Precise and Targeted Military Objectives

Amidst Emergency UN Security Council Meeting, Iran Defends Response to Israeli Attack on Diplomatic Premises, Calls for Accountability.

Iran’s Envoy and Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, addressed the United Nations Security Council in response to Iran’s retaliatory strike against Israeli military targets, which followed the Israeli regime’s attack on Iran’s consulate in Syria on April 1. Iravani emphasized that Iran’s response was precise and solely targeted military objectives, aimed at minimizing civilian casualties.

Iravani condemned what he described as the Israeli regime’s “cowardly terrorist and armed attack” on Iran’s diplomatic premises in Damascus, which resulted in the death of seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military advisors and the destruction of the consulate building. He stressed Iran’s right to self-defense under international law and accused certain Security Council members, including the US, UK, and France, of turning a blind eye to Israeli aggression while falsely blaming Iran for the escalation.

Furthermore, Iravani criticized the Security Council’s failure to denounce the Israeli attack on Iran’s consulate and its inability to take decisive action to hold the perpetrators accountable. He highlighted Iran’s repeated warnings about the consequences of Israeli actions in the region and called for urgent measures to prevent further violations of international law.

Regarding Iran’s relationship with the US, Iravani stated that while Iran seeks peace, it will respond proportionately if the US initiates military operations against Iran. He reiterated Iran’s commitment to defending its people, national security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity against any threat or aggression.

Iravani concluded by reaffirming Iran’s commitment to international peace and security, urging the Security Council to fulfill its duty under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter to address the real threat posed by Israeli actions in the region. He also rejected what he termed as unfounded allegations made by the Israeli regime during the meeting.
