Supreme Court Grants Bail to AAP Leader Sanjay Singh in Delhi Excise Policy Case

Supreme Court's Bail Grant to AAP Leader Sanjay Singh Challenges Political Narratives Amidst Allegations of Vendetta.

New Delhi: In a significant development, the Supreme Court granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in the Delhi excise policy case. Singh, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) six months ago, saw the apex court’s decision as a vindication of truth and justice prevailing.

The bail order comes after a series of legal battles and assertions by the AAP regarding what they perceive as politically motivated actions by central agencies. The party welcomed the decision, hailing it as a victory for democracy and a testament to the resilience of truth.

Addressing the press shortly after the court’s ruling, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj highlighted the court’s scrutiny of the case, questioning the basis of Singh’s arrest and the lack of substantial evidence presented by the ED. He emphasized the court’s observation that raised doubts about the validity of the charges against Singh.

Similarly, Delhi Minister Atishi reiterated the sentiment, stating that the granting of bail to Sanjay Singh underscores the principle that truth prevails despite attempts to suppress it. She pointed out that Singh’s case exposed the flaws in the allegations made against AAP leaders, indicating a larger pattern of persecution.

However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) viewed the bail differently, asserting that it debunked AAP’s claims of vendetta politics by central agencies. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla emphasized that the ED did not oppose Singh’s bail, suggesting a lack of substantial evidence to warrant his continued detention. He argued that AAP’s celebration of the bail could be interpreted as an admission of guilt by the party’s leadership currently facing legal challenges.

Sanjay Singh’s arrest last October had stirred controversy, with AAP accusing central agencies of targeting its leaders unfairly. The Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail signifies a significant turn in the legal proceedings, allowing Singh to resume his political activities while adhering to the court’s directives regarding statements related to the case.

As the legal battle continues, the granting of bail to Sanjay Singh serves as a reminder of the complexities surrounding the intersection of law and politics in India’s democratic landscape.
