100 Years of IFA: Samsung’s AI Shapes the Future of Connected Living

Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA) Celebrates a Century of Innovation, with Samsung Leading the Charge in AI-Driven Technologies.

The Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA), Europe’s largest consumer electronics trade show, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024. What began as a radio exhibition in 1924 has since transformed into a hub for groundbreaking technologies, with Samsung Electronics playing a central role in this journey.

Over the years, Samsung has consistently unveiled innovations at IFA that have shaped the future of consumer electronics. Samsung first participated in IFA in 1991 with a modest booth showcasing monitors and PCs. By 2003, the company expanded its presence significantly, occupying a 3,600-square-meter booth and later taking over the entire CityCube Berlin in 2014. Today, Samsung’s booth spans 6,000 square meters, solidifying its position as a leading innovator at IFA.

At IFA 2024, Samsung will highlight its advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and connected living. The company has seamlessly integrated mobile devices, TVs, and home appliances through its SmartThings platform, which now boasts over 340 partners and 350 million users globally. SmartThings enables a connected ecosystem where users can control their devices with ease, driving the future of AI-powered home automation.

The Evolution of Home Appliances

The evolution of home appliances has mirrored the technological advancements showcased at IFA over the years. What were once simple mechanical devices have now become sophisticated, AI-driven tools for modern living. Samsung has been at the forefront of this transformation, introducing groundbreaking technologies that redefine the way we interact with our homes.

For example, Samsung unveiled the Family Hub refrigerator at IFA 2016, marking a new era of connected home appliances. This was followed by the introduction of AI-powered devices at IFA 2023, including 15 AI-driven home appliances that demonstrated the potential of artificial intelligence in enhancing daily life.

Samsung’s journey with IFA is now focused on the future, with the company continuing to push the boundaries of innovation. At IFA 2024, Samsung will showcase its latest advancements in device control, including upgrades to its Bixby voice assistant. These innovations will enable users to interact with their devices in more intuitive ways, further enhancing the connected living experience.

AI as the Future of Innovation

Samsung has recognized that artificial intelligence is the key to the future of innovation. At IFA 2018, the company highlighted AI as a major focus, signaling that connected living would become a dominant trend in the electronics industry. Since then, Samsung has continued to lead the way in AI-driven technologies, integrating AI into its home appliances, TVs, and mobile devices.

One of Samsung’s most significant achievements in recent years is the development of Samsung Food, an AI-powered food and recipe platform that connects home appliances, TVs, and mobile devices. This platform delivers personalized cooking experiences tailored to each household, showcasing the potential of AI in enhancing everyday life.

As IFA celebrates its 100th anniversary, Samsung is poised to lead the next century of innovation. The company’s advancements in AI and connected living will be on full display at CityCube Berlin during IFA 2024 from September 6-10, offering a glimpse into the future of technology and the connected home.
